Harvington Hall is delighted to announce that it was the winner of the ‘Hidden Gem’ award at the prestigious UK Heritage Awards 2019; a well-deserved accolade indeed, as attested by numerous Trip Advisor reviews! The awards were handed out at an exclusive ceremony celebrating the best heritage experiences and places to stay in the UK, hosted at Grocer’s Hall in London on 25th March.
The UK Heritage Awards are arranged by the UK’s leading heritage, tourism and destination marketing company, Visit Heritage, publisher of best-selling heritage guide Hudson’s and the UK’s independent hotel guide, Signpost.
The Hidden Gem category received more applications than ever before, and Harvington Hall was a joint winner along with 78 Derngate. The Hall was praised for its many secret hiding places, cunning chimney escape and secret chapel, as well as its outstanding collection of Elizabethan wall paintings. More than that, it was the important message of tolerance and the moving experiences provoked by the story of Harvington that really made it stand out as a true gem.
Emma Pullen, Hall Manager, said, “It is so wonderful to see Harvington recognised as the ‘Hidden Gem’ that it is. Visitors have been using this description for a very long time, and now this prestigious accolade will hopefully help make the Hall a little less hidden, though, of course, it will forever be a gem!”
